The small change (after all, the Palm V does have a flaring of its sides, but only at the bottom corners) doesn't add any functionality but makes a whole new protective product line necessary. I came across a few sites that outright stated they were quite alike.Well, if this case is the judge by which to tell them apart, then they're as different as night and day. There are two main reasons this case didn't work for the m500 I have.Firstly, the rail will not slide into place on the left-hand side of the 500.Secondly, while it does fit on the larger diameter right-hand side, the case will not shut because--although the side of the two models are similar, the similarity ends at the upper left and right corners. The m500 flares out just enough on these corners to make a completely different case necessary.I figure this most have been the point. I purchased one of these stylish cases from an amazon vendor for 1¢While it is beautiful to look at, that's about all I can do with it.I had bought it thinking (and with good reason) that the Palm Vxx and the Palm m5xx were compatible. The thinking on this went beyond the remarkable similarity they share in outward appearance.
I have since upgraded to the Tungsten and could not find a case that compared to this one. I am the type of guy who would forget my Palm was in my pocket and play volleyball. This is the only case that protects while maintaining the thin attractivness of the Palm V.
I carried this in an inner jacket pocket for two weeks and wound up with a cracked Vx screen. But this is actually what I had. No protection is offered by this device.
Besides that one little pet peve, I'm very happy I got it. This is mostly a problem only when using the cradle, as you have to take it out of the case to get it in there. Cool looking case. Color looks cool, and the aluminum plates really make it look nice.Sounds shady, but it actually arrived fast & brand new.My only complaint about this case is that the lid does not fold back behind the palm when opened like soft cases & some hard cases; it only flips out flat next to the palm or straight up in the air.
The protection is very good and the aluminum pieces don't detract from it. The photo looks sort of aqua-ish from here, in person it's more like a navy blue. I purchased the Palm V hard case in order to protect my palm without being unnecesarily bulky. Also, it looks much better in person than the photo. I haven't dropped my palm yet, but I expect the case to handle it very well if I do. It fits the job well. As has been noticed with other people, the case is in fact plastic with aluminum pieces glued on, but it's ok.
